"I am sure this situation is not unique but it is a scandalous waste. I would just like to put back what I don't need back in to the system, the chemist tells me it would be fraud if they took it back as if they dispensed it to someone else they would be paid twice.
I imagine the argument against this is that I may have tampered with my sealed pots of cream. I can't help but think most people (myself included) firstly have no reason to, and secondly would not have the skill.
Please can we change it?"

"Last week a friend was readmitted to hospital for overnight assessment of lung function. When she arrived at the hospital she had all her current drugs taken from her, which included her chemotherapy drugs. During her overnight stay she had her prescribed drugs supplied from the ward stock.
On discharge, next afternoon, she was given a completely new supply of all her drugs including her chemotherapy drugs because the supply she had taken to hospital had been destroyed. This is apparently standard procedure for all admissions.
Why is this policy continued when the NHS is trying to save money, particularly on its drug budget? Surely in the present climate of saving money it would be far better to use the patients drugs until as such time as they need replacing which could be either done on the ward, if still an inpatient, or left to the patients GP after they have been discharged."

"I am amazed by the vast amount of waste is in hospitals, hospices, nursing & residential homes when unopened medicines are binned – there are millions of pounds wasted every year and it is a terrible waste. Just go to a local home or hospital and see what waste there is – it is appalling. There are medicines which are still sealed wasted and expensive drugs are wasted."
